5 — Benefits of Plastic bags

In the last four decades, plastic bags have contributed significantly to the well-being of the vast majority of people for different reasons, of which we will only present the main ones, within a framework of sustainable objectivity in the broadest sense of the term. The above with the purpose of locating in its just dimension the social value that these simple packages have been meaning in the recent past, and that such value is still valid.

Plastic bags appear just to replace paper bags, in the vast majority of applications, at a much lower cost, with better containment, hygiene and durability properties. In addition to the above, with a much lower environmental impact throughout its life cycle (from the origin of raw materials, transformation and distribution).
Plastic bags, among other characteristics, contribute an important part in the life of “shelf” of many food products, allowing smaller losses, contributing directly to make food production more sustainable. (Less waste of food is equal to less waste of labor in planting and harvesting, lower diesel consumption of tractors and transports, etc.) This concept leads directly to the fact that having less diverse wastes, automatically results in lower costs, and as a consequence of this, make many of our foods more accessible in price.
Plastic bags occupy on average 1% of garbage dumps. If they were paper, they would occupy 8% as well as generating methane gas that is much more toxic than CO2.
The plastic bags, of “t-shirt” type that serve us for the hauling of goods, are reused in more than 90% of the cases, to deposit the solid domestic waste, fulfilling a double function of important social value.
Plastic bags are worth more than they cost, if we consider that they are a low-cost package; they are sustainable; they are hygienic; they are functional; They are recyclable; they are reusable; They are not toxic and are not contaminants by themselves.
